Why Use a Percentage to SGPA Calculator?

When applying for higher studies abroad or filling out job applications for companies like TCS, Wipro, or Infosys, you may be asked to provide your score in SGPA/CGPA format. However, if your mark sheet only shows a percentage, you cannot simply divide by 10 for every university.

This calculator helps you apply the Reverse Engineering Formulas officially recognized by universities like Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Mumbai University, and others.

Official Conversion Formulas Used

1. SPPU (Pune University)

Since the forward formula is Pct = (SGPA - 0.75) * 10, the reverse calculation is:

Reverse Formula: SGPA = (Percentage / 10) + 0.75

Example: For 72% marks:
(72 / 10) + 0.75 = 7.2 + 0.75 = 7.95 SGPA

2. Mumbai University (10 Point Scale)

For the modern 10-point grading system, Mumbai University uses the linear equation Pct = (7.25 * SGPA) + 11. The reverse logic is:

Reverse Formula: SGPA = (Percentage - 11) / 7.25

Example: For 80% marks:
(80 - 11) / 7.25 = 69 / 7.25 = 9.52 SGPA

3. VTU & Anna University

Most technical universities in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu use a direct divisor for their absolute grading systems.

Formula: SGPA = Percentage / 10

4. KTU (Kerala Technological University)

KTU uses the formula Pct = 10(SGPA - 0.75) in some contexts, or Pct = 10*SGPA - 7.5. The reverse is:

Formula: SGPA = (Percentage + 7.5) / 10

Quick Comparison Table

Percentage SPPU SGPA VTU SGPA Mumbai SGPA
60% 6.75 6.00 6.76
70% 7.75 7.00 8.14
80% 8.75 8.00 9.52

Tips for Students

  • Accuracy Matters: Do not round off your percentage before entering it into the calculator. Use up to two decimal places (e.g., 78.45%).
  • Check Marksheet: Always verify the formula on the back of your official grade card. If it differs, use the "Custom Divisor" option.
  • Generic Fallback: If your university is not listed and you cannot find an official formula, the Percentage / 10 method is the most widely accepted approximation.
