How the CGPA Formula Works
CGPA is a credit-weighted average, not a plain average of your grades. A 4-credit course pulls your CGPA about four times harder than a 1-credit lab, because it's the credits — not the number of subjects — that do the weighting.

CGPA for Pakistani Universities (HEC & Beyond)
Pakistan's higher education is regulated by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), but individual universities layer their own rules on top of the HEC baseline. If you're applying for scholarships like Ehsaas or PEEF, use the preset that matches your actual institution rather than the generic HEC default — the differences below aren't cosmetic.
1. Punjab University (PU)
PU runs an absolute 4.0 scale with fine decimal increments. A 'D' grade (1.00 GP) requires a minimum of 50% marks to pass. Postgraduate students need to maintain a 2.50 aggregate to stay off probation.
2. COMSATS University
COMSATS (CUI) uses a specific absolute scale: 85–100% earns an A (4.0), 80–84.99% earns an A- (3.7). A CGPA of 3.50+ puts you on the Dean's Honor List.
3. IIUI (International Islamic University Islamabad)
IIUI's 8-grade system skips minus grades entirely (no A-, B-, C-). A 75–79% score earns a straight B+ (3.50 GP) — running a generic minus-grade calculator on an IIUI transcript will give you the wrong number.
4. KMU (Khyber Medical University) & the HEC Default
KMU runs both modular medical programs and standard semester-based allied health programs (Nursing, DPT). Standard semesters follow the HEC framework, where the percentage conversion is simply Percentage = (CGPA ÷ 4.0) × 100.
