How to Calculate SGPA, CGPA & Percentage (KTU)
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average): The weighted average of all course grades in a semester.
Formula: SGPA = Σ(Grade Point × Credits) ÷ Σ(Credits)
Example: For 5 courses with credits 3,3,3,2,2 and grade points 8,7,9,8,7:
SGPA = (3×8 + 3×7 + 3×9 + 2×8 + 2×7) ÷ (3+3+3+2+2) = 7.85
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average): Average of all SGPA scores across semesters, weighted by semester credits.
Formula: CGPA = Σ(SGPA × Semester Credits) ÷ Σ(Semester Credits)
Example: If Semester 1 SGPA = 7.85 (credits 18) and Semester 2 SGPA = 8.2 (credits 20):
CGPA = (7.85×18 + 8.2×20) ÷ (18+20) = 8.03
Percentage: Convert CGPA to percentage using the official KTU rule.
